USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20) Commissioning

We are delighted to inform you that USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20), the fourth of a new class of amphibious transport dock ships, will be commissioned in Long Beach, California in late January 2009. USS GREEN BAY was built at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Avondale, Louisiana.

On August 29, 2008, U.S. Navy accepted delivery of the Green Bay from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (NGSB) in New Orleans.

Commissioning a ship is a time-honored tradition, which celebrates a vessel’s formal entry into service with the active Navy fleet. The Long Beach Council Chapter of the United States Navy League has agreed to sponsor USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20) commissioning and is raising funds to support this endeavor.
